More Hope for Downtown Vegas

This isn’t exactly breaking news, but in the new/old news department it was announced over the weekend that the owners of the Golden Gate casino downtown would be buying Fitzgeralds Hotel and Casino.  Downtown Vegas has been experiencing a big revitalization lately as El Cortez, Golden Gate, Las Vegas Club and Plaza have all announced or undergone big refreshes or complete remodels.

Golden Gate already has big plans for Fitzgeralds including a remodel of the property.  Fitzgeralds is also somewhat unique in that it’s casino spans two floors.  The Golden Gate owners plan to take advantage of this by theming the second floor into a “Vintage Vegas” theme.  I’m not sure what this means, but I’m hoping it also is accompanied by such vintage Vegas ideas as lower limits and player friendly odds (yes, I realize I am dreaming).

Along with the purchase comes word that the name of Fitzgeralds will change.  This makes sense as Fitzeralds is a national chain and the old owners probably will retain the name.  Hopefully this also means an end to the neon rainbow on the side of the building.  Regardless, it is so exciting to see so much going on to improve downtown.  These days a Vegas trip isn’t complete without visiting Fremont St and these plans to freshen up the properties can only help.
