Casino hotel rooms are usually renovated about every 6-8 years, so it’s not too surprising to see that Borgata is updating their rooms this year.

More than 300 suites were redesigned last year. Renovations are now under way on 1,600 regular guest rooms, hallways and other parts of the hotel. Completion is scheduled for summer 2012, about the same time Revel will open.

Borgata, which opened in July 2003, has more hotel rooms than any other Atlantic City casino. Its main 2,000-room tower was joined in 2008 by the new 800-room Water Club, a boutique-style property that cost $400 million to build.

Perkins said Borgata’s hotel renovations are not only aimed at Revel, but also at the rival Pennsylvania casinos.

To think that the renovations are only aimed at those two locations is silly.  This analyst should be reassigned because he’s only seeing 1/8th of the picture.

Just about every hotel in Atlantic City has a new or renovated tower for their bigger players.  In fact, if this wasn’t done the oldest rooms in the Marina area, next year, would have been at Borgata (Golden Nugget & Waterfront Tower at Harrahs).

The rooms are Borgata aren’t in bad shape, they really just need an update.  So, while the rooms are out of date, they are among my favorite rooms in Atlantic City.  Borgata just needs the updates to keep on pace with the pack inside and outside of Atlantic City.  Even without amazing design, they will likely remain top of the food chain in Atlantic City, but it would be nice to see if they can aesthetically remain there.  I’m looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us.
