Pennsylvania Closing In On Table Games at Casinos

A poor economy may lead to Pennsylvania getting table games at their casinos.   Taxing cigarettes a little more and income from table games in casinos are some of the items that will allow Pennsylvania to balance their budget.  Table games can come as soon as six to nine months from now.

Six to nine months.

Pennsylvania gaming executives and regulators have long delivered that answer when asked how long it would take to add poker, blackjack, craps and other dice and card games to casinos around the state once given the legislative go-ahead.

A lot of things have happened in the past few years to hurt Atlantic City’s gambling economy.  Revenues have gone down for years, but the market held on.  This may be the straw that breaks the (weak) camel’s back.

If this goes through, I’m all for it.  Competition is always good for the consumer.  Pennsylvania will become real competition to Atlantic City for all gamblers on the Atlantic.

I think this will force some of the weak casinos to go out of business due to less traffic while it will force those that remain in business to step up their game with better service and quality.  This could lead to a “win” for the casino customer in Atlantic City.
