My day started with a nice iced latte and a snack so I could fight off a hangover which was surely around the corner. While wandering about the casino for something to play I remembered that my favorite $1 9/6 Jacks or Better video poker machines were removed. I decided to look around to see if the 25 cent versions were still around. I clicked on vpFREE2′s mobile site to confirm location and of course they were gone too. Seriously Harrah’s? That’s lame.
I decided to play a 25 cent Bonus Poker machine while I sipped on my iced latte. Just as the coffee was running out I hit four of a kind for about $200! I played a few more hands and cashed out. I wandered around and decided to check the high limits area to see if the 3 $5 9/6 Jacks or Better video poker machines were still in tact. Low and behold they still existed. Of course the only “good” machines were the rich machines. Again, seriously Harrah’s?
This is where I really began thinking about where I was going to gamble in the future. I was always exclusively a table player, but I noticed that my friends were getting better comps and cash back playing machines so I learned how to play video poker. 9/6 Jacks or Better is my game of choice because it is easy to play and has little volatility.
I play $5 machines, but I do not want that to be my only option to play. It’s as if there’s a strangle on me and I don’t like it. 3 machines in an entire casino is not enough for me. Only $5 machines is not cool. Sometimes I like to chill and play smaller denominations.
Competition is king and it’s time where I have to see where my money gets me the farthest.
OK, off the soapbox and on to the gambling. I was so happy to see the 9/6 Jacks of Better that I had to play a little. I threw in a few bills and went to town. I was slowly grinding up the ladder with no big hands until I was dealt 3 Queens. Could this be the cash grab Four of a Kind I was looking for?
I ended up not getting the Four of a Kind, but I did end up with a nice hand – Full House!
This was the highlight of my weekend at video poker. I ended up losing some of my winnings but doubled up for the session before walking away from the machine. I stopped by this machine a few more times throughout the weekend and never had a session that touched this one. Overall the $5 video poker was about even for me.
Because of the lack of “good” machines I mostly stayed away from video poker for the weekend. I played a nickle multi play machine and won a little. I lost a little at the bars, but nothing special either way.
Next up….3 card poker!

There are three 25-cent 9/6 JoB machines at Harrah’s according to vpfree2, and I know they’re there since I played on them Sunday night. Disappointing to see there were only three, but at least there were some.

Thanks for confirming that the 3 machines are still there. I walked in circles looking for them. I felt like an idiot so I stopped.
Like you said, 3 machines less than $5 for 9/6 JOB is disappointing.
